More Outrage Fatigue

I'm suggesting that this is one of those too-frequent moments of mental overload, when the best thing you can do is put some distance between yourself and the TV screen and not try to absorb it all at once. It's reassuring to know that not only am I the only one feeling overwhelmed these days by all the bad news, but I sit in the good company of David Broder when I do. Sagely—and that's Dave's job, to be sage...cuz he's, like, old and old guys are always sage—Broder advises we take a little perspective pill. In four months, he asks, what issue dominating the headlines will you give a crap about?
Well, Michael Jackson's child abuse trial, obviously. Duh.
